When Unfinished Stories meet a Scripted ‘The End’

It’s almost magical to witness the process of re-doing, re-imagining, re-committing, re-rehearsing, and re-executing the synergy of a play that hasn’t been re-visited for a year. I think the word ‘re-vival’ in itself sounds like the perfect blend of correcting past mistakes and confidently avoiding, yet making new ones. Perhaps, that is when theatre comes closest to poetic licence — the idea of reviving the so-called ends…

Not long ago, Parwana began its journey with its maiden production, The End. In just two years, what started as an experiment has grown into something far more expansive. With a run of 15 shows in a single year — most of them houseful — The End quietly became a beginning for the whole team. So when the idea of reviving it emerged, with a new cast, a younger crew, and a shared impulse of “let’s do this again,” it felt equal parts exciting and uncertain.

A Space Where Text and Movement Speak the Same Language…

For anyone trying to merge text and movement, one of the first questions to appear is: when should the body step in? Our humble submission — there is no single right moment. If text is meant to find its reflection with subtext, the assistance of movement can give that subtext a physical nudge. Whether you are an actor, dancer, writer, or director, the goal is to bring words together with the body, and convey a somewhat singular meaning.

Asking the right questions paved the way for us to dive into the possibilities of enhancing text and movement. It took us almost a month to find our way, but you shouldn’t!

We’re happy to announce that our much-loved Inter-Playing Text and Movement Workshop is back on the 4th of April from 9 am to 2 pm, at Studio Tamaasha, Andheri West, Mumbai.
Join us, to unpack the process of bringing these often warring elements together, in-action.

7 Plays that Made Us Deewana-Mastana-Parwana in 2025

2025 was a year filled with chaos, shift in perspectives, greater assessment of art…
so nothing drastically different from every year!

Beneath the recurring (and steadily scary) headlines, what remains constantly changing is how we perceive reality. This often leads to more nuanced narratives about the world around us — and no one does that better than theatrewalas! It is within this shared complex reality that theatre finds its reason to exist.

We were fortunate to witness a variety of themes and genres in the plays we watched this year, and so we thought — why not look back and put together a list of plays we watched in 2025 that left us in awe….
